We report a beautiful summary published by On. Veronica Tentori on her Facebook page. We can now consider Veronica Esino Lario’s “parliamentary godmother” and we wish for her to be even more a politician close to the people.

“Wikepedia comes to Italy. And Italy on Wikepedia?” was the topic of BarCamp that took place on Monday June 22nd in the Chamber of Deputies, promoted by myself along with the Parliamentary Intergroup for Innovation and the Press Office of the Chamber of Deputies, bearing in mind that the next world meeting of the Wikepedia Community will be hosted in Esino Lario (Lecco) in June 2016, exactly in a year time. At the workshop also took part Iolanda Pensa, responsible for Wikimania Esino Lario, who presented the event with a video showing the cultural and natural heritage of Lecco and its sorroundings.
In organising this event we gave ourselves three objectives.
The first is to say that presenting a world event in Esino Lario, the idea to bring a world eventin this small mountain village of 800 inhabitants a global reality such Wikipedia, means that innovation is not just a question of technology, but it is a different idea of community, relations and quality of life.
The second it is discovering closely how the most famous online encyclopedia works – one can consult but also contribute – in a dimension of active participation and sharing of information, respecting the principles of neutrality and citing the sources.
The third and most important is to know and understand the obstacles that can prevent Wikipedia to express fully the Italian cultural and touristic potential, highlighting the question of reproduction of cultural wealth and in particular of images of monuments. The event taking place in this territory is in fact a chance to put at the core of the national debate these topics and reach real objectives that can be a legacy to the entire country.
Given the openness and sensitivity demonstrated by the undersecretary Francesca Barracciu, who also announced her availability to find solutions shared through a workshop in which all the interested people can partecipate, I would say the afternoon was useful and productive. We can say that the Lecco and its sorroundings has has brought on the national scene a topic of great importance at this moment in time.
